The records continue to fall for Kobe Bryant, as he has passed another legendary name on the scoring charts. Just days after breaking into the top ten by passing Dominique Wilkins, Bryant is at it again. This time he has passed Oscar Robertson, another legend of the game. Robertson was one of the best point guards in league history, and will forever be known as the only player in NBA history to have averaged a triple-double over an entire season.
There will be more to come on Robertson, but tonight we’ll focus on Bryant. By scoring his sixteenth point of the night against the New Orleans Hornets, Bryant had put in his 26,711th point in his career.
This puts Bryant into the ninth slot in NBA history, and puts one of his mentors into his sights next, Hakeem Olajuwan. The former Rockets’ center scored 26,946 points in his Hall of Fame career, and will be the next legend for Bryant to overtake this season. If Bryant continues on his current pace of 25.1 points per game, he should be able to pass Olajuwan before the calendar hits February.
