Kyle Kuzma Ties Pair Of Magic Johnson Lakers Rookie Records

What’s been a season of firsts for Kyle Kuzma has again led to his name going alongside that of Magic Johnson in terms of Los Angeles Lakers rookie records.

Kuzma’s 30 points on Wednesday night was his fourth 30-plus game season, which is most by a Lakers rookie since Johnson also had four in 1979-80. Additionally, Kuzma enters play Friday with 20 straight games of scoring a minimum of 10 points.

That stretch is also good for the most by any rookie in franchise history since Johnson similarly produced a 20-game streak. Earlier this season, Kuzma became the first Lakers rookie with consecutive 20-and-10 games since Johnson did so.

Prior to that, the versatile forward stood as the only Lakers rookie with at least 30 points in a game on a Christmas Day, as he poured in 31 points against the Minnesota Timberwolves.

Kuzma also broke D’Angelo Russell’s record for most 3-pointers made by a Lakers rookie. It should be noted Kuzma’s accomplishments haven’t solely been limited to Lakers history. He’s the first rookie to ever tally a minimum of 1,000 points, 400 rebounds and 130 made 3-pointers.

As a team, L.A. has made 782 3-pointers, which is most all-time. The previous record was held by the 2013-14 team that made 774 attempts from deep.
