The Lakers extended their NBA record of longest winning streak against another franchise Wednesday night with their 22nd consecutive win against the Minnesota Timberwolves. Several minutes later, the Lakers kept another NBA record alive, but not to their own credit. After an impressive 27 game winning streak, the Miami Heat run finally came to an end with a 101-97 loss to the Chicago Bulls Wednesday night in the United Center. The Lakers legacy lives on.

At 33 games, the 1972 Lakers, coached by Bill Sharman, still hold the record for the longest winning streak in NBA history. Before this year, no team since 1972 had come within even 10 wins of challenging the Lakers historic record. The current Lakers team hasn’t won a back-to-back this season, the 1972 Lakers won four back-to-back-to-back situations over the course of their streak alone.

What did Kobe Bryant have to say about the streak? Tonight, on Time Warner Cable SportsNet, Kobe Bryant had high words of praise for Miami’s streak.

“The Heat’s run is just as impressive.” – Kobe Bryant comparing the Heat 27 W streak to the Lakers 33 W Streak (on @twcsportsnet )

Lakers fans can rejoice in knowing that the Lakers still hold on to one of the most impressive records in NBA history. They say history is meant to be broken, but the Lakers hold on to this one tonight.
