Lakers Announce Jamaal Wilkes Retirement Jersey Ceremony Date

The Lakers will honor Kareem Abdul-Jabbar with a statue this season, and will retire Shaquille O’Neal’s jersey number as well. But they will also be retiring the number of newly inducted Hall of Fame player Jamaal Wilkes as well.

On Friday, Dec. 28, the Lakers will retire Wilkes’ #52 jersey. This follows their tradition of retiring player’s jerseys once they’re inducted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame. It was announced that Wilkes would be inducted into the Hall of Fame on April 2, 2012.

Wilkes was a member of the Lakers from 1977-1984. He finished his career as a four-time NBA champion (1975, 80, 82 and 85); three-time NBA All-Star (1976, 81, and 83); two-time All-Defensive Second Team and was named the 1975 NBA Rookie of the Year.
