Lakers Current Frontrunners to Acquire Cavaliers’ Ramon Sessions

The NBA trade deadline is almost 48 hours away and teams all around the league are working phones in order to improve their squads. The one team that has been looking to make a deal perhaps more than any other has been the Los Angeles Lakers. With a glaring weakness in the backcourt at point guard, the Lakers have been looking for the answer via trade.

There have been plenty of potential trade options out there that the Lakers have been considering over the past month or so like Raymond Felton, Kyle Lowry, Rajon Rondo, Devin Harris and Ramon Sessions. There was talk of the team signing veteran point guard Gilbert Arenas that has yet to find a new team as a free agent, but despite a promising workout Lakers GM Mitch Kupchak has been looking to go younger rather than signing an injury prone 30-year-old.

So with about two days left some things have come to light that has narrowed the search for the Los Angeles Lakers. The Boston Celtics came out and said that they aren’t trading Rajon Rondo and the Houston Rockets have made it known that they will hold on to Kyle Lowry. Devin Harris of the Utah Jazz remains a possibility, but Ramon Session just might be the best option via trade at this point.

According to Alex Kennedy of Hoopsworld.com, the Lakers are currently the frontrunners to land Ramon Sessions:

Ramon Sessions is a more obtainable option. The Lakers have been linked to Sessions for weeks and they continue to express significant interest in the Cleveland Cavaliers’ point guard. While other teams have called about Sessions, the Lakers are believed to be the frontrunner to acquire his services, if they decide to pull the trigger on a deal.

Another strong possibility with the trade deadline around the corner is the Lakers acquiring Raymond Felton from the Portland Trail Blazers. There might be a deal already in the works with the Lakers sending Steve Blake and another piece to make the numbers work to Portland in exchange for Felton.

Once again, this is all speculation at this point in time, but that will be over on Thurs. March 15 at 12:00 p.m. Pacific Time. If the Lakers fail to make a move at the deadline in order to acquire a point guard, the team might settle on signing Gilbert Arenas for the rest of the season.
