The Los Angeles Lakers announced they will donate $100,000 to the American Red Cross to assist the relief efforts for victims of the recent California wildfires. It’s the second time in the past few months the organization has become involved in providing for those in need.

In the aftermath of a mass shooting at a Las Vegas music festival, the Lakers, Sacramento Kings
T-Mobile Arena, AEG, and MGM Resorts International donated the proceeds from a preseason game in the city to those affected by the tragic incident.

There was a period late last year where various regions of Southern California were simultaneously ablaze. At one point as many as six wildfires were burning at the same time. Torrential rain this week caused mudslides in several of the areas that previously burned.

Corey Brewer and Brook Lopez found themselves in evacuation areas just as the Lakers were set to embark on a road trip.

For Brewer, dealing with a natural disaster was all too familiar. Flooding from Hurricane Harvey threatened his home in Houston, with the water level reaching his front door before

Lopez was forced to bring his cat to the Lakers facility, then have a driver take it to his mother’s house in Fresno, Calif.

The Lakers join the L.A. Dodgers and some of their players in making contributions to relief efforts for natural disasters that occurred both within and outside the continental United States.

To join the Lakers in assisting those in need, visit redcross.org or call 1-800-RED-CROSS for more information.
