The 2014 NBA Draft is expected to be one of the most talented drafts in a long time. The top of the draft features as many as seven or eight players who are expected to be possible All-Stars and a number of others who could be great contributors to a number of teams.
Arguably the most intriguing of all the prospects is 6’6 Australian point guard Dante Exum. Exum recently declared for the NBA draft and hired Rob Pelinka as his agent, who also represents Kobe Bryant. Former Chicago Bulls center Luc Longley is a mentor of Exum’s, and in talking to Bleacher Report, revealed he has already heard from a number of teams, including the Lakers:
“I got a call from the Lakers asking about him and they may end up with a good pick […] I’ve had a few calls from other NBA teams mostly asking about him, they see the skill package but these days they’re all concerned about character. That will help push Dante further up the draft, because he’s the type of person they’d want to have in an organization.”
It makes sense that the Lakers would be interested in the young point guard. The fact that there is very little film on him adds some mystique to him, and teams are scrambling to see just how good he is.
He had an excellent showing at the Nike Hoops Summit and will almost definitely be selected in the top five of the draft. There seems to be a number of point guard options for the Lakers as Eric Bledsoe will be a free agent after this season, and Kyrie Irving continues to grow frustrated in Cleveland. Exum will undoubtedly be a possibility for the Lakers if he is available when the Lakers select.
