After two difficult seasons where the Los Angeles Lakers failed to make the playoffs, the storied franchise landed the No. 2 at the NBA Draft Lottery on Tuesday. With three picks (including the 27th and 34th) at the NBA Draft on June 25, there is great optimism moving forward.

While all the discussion is focused on Karl-Anthony Towns (Kentucky) and Jahlil Okafor (Duke), Lakers general manager Mitch Kupchak discussed the possibility of trading the No. 2 pick with Sean Deveney of Sporting News:

With the Lakers looking to rebuild themselves into championship contenders again, the front office will explore all options with their lottery pick. While the Lakers have spoken about rebuilding the right way, they may opt to speed up the process by trading for an established player.

Heading into the off-season, the future of franchise is much brighter now after landing the second overall pick. With three draft picks and ample cap space in free agency, the Lakers are slowly establishing their foundation for the post-Kobe Bryant era.
