Lakers Highlights: Luka Doncic Erupts For 60 Points, LeBron James Records Triple-Double Against Heat

Coming off impressive road wins against the Houston Rockets, the Los Angeles Lakers would be faced with one of its biggest challenges as they took on the Miami Heat on the second night of a back-to-back.

Back-to-back games are difficult enough at home, but to do it on the road makes it even more of an uphill battle considering factors like travel time and sleep quality. The “Big 3” of Luka Doncic, LeBron James and Austin Reaves were each considered questionable entering the matchup due to the offensive burden they’ve been carrying, but in a moderate surprise the trio were all made available.

The opening quarter looked exactly how one might think it would go for the Lakers as they struggled to shoot the basketball and make multiple efforts defensively. Given the circumstances, it would have been understandable to see them roll over and move on to the next game but instead they clawed their way back in the second half behind a spirited two-way performance.

The fourth quarter had almost no rhythm to it due to all the foul calls and free throws, but Los Angeles somehow found a way to extend its win streak as they ended up beating Miami 134-126.

Doncic has been a man on a mission since the start of March, putting up points almost effortlessly despite how much defensive attention he draws. The Heat have a strong defensive unit, but they couldn’t slow down Luka, who had it going from everywhere on the floor.

Doncic really kicked things into high gear in the second half, nailing nearly-impossible shots to get the Lakers back into the game. After setting his purple and gold high in points last week, he surpassed it with a 60-point masterpiece against the Heat.

Doncic finished the night with a line of 60 points, seven rebounds, three assists and five steals and made another strong argument in his MVP case.

While Doncic took over scoring for L.A., LeBron James did a little bit of everything to fill in the gaps. James continued his efficient shooting stretch, going 8-of-12 from the field for 19 points. He ultimately finished the night with a triple-double as he also had 15 rebounds and 10 assists.

What’s next for the Lakers

The Lakers’ road trip will continue in Florida as they will take on the Orlando Magic on Saturday. They’ll then travel north to play the Detroit Pistons on Monday.
