Lakers Injury Update: Xavier Henry Timetable Pushed Back

Xavier HenryInitially, newcomer Xavier Henry of the Los Angeles Lakers was set to be reevaluated on Jan. 9 for a bone bruise suffered on Dec. 29 against the Philadelphia 76ers. Now, things have changed for the third-year pro as his reevaluation won’t happen until next week according to Lakers Nation reporter Serena Winters:

Injuries have taken a serious toll on the Lakers this season with backcourt players going down on a nightly basis. Henry helped shoulder the load at the point guard position after Kobe Bryant injured his knee, but went down shortly after taking over as the starter.

The point guard position has been a revolving door for the Lakers this season with few healthy players on the roster capable of playing the position. Steve Nash, Steve Blake and Jordan Farmar are all currently dealing with injuries that could keep them out at least another month while Bryant is expected to be back at the end of January or sometime in February.

Fortunately, the Lakers were able to bring in Kendall Marshall from the D-League. Marshall wasn’t expected to make much of an impact, but has been forced into the lineup with Farmar suffering another hamstring injury recently.

As for Henry, the former lottery pick has made an impression in his short time in Los Angeles. Henry has played in 31 games this season averaging 10.1 points, 2.8 rebounds and 1.1 steals per game.
