At Lakers Nation, we are fortunate enough to be able to work with some of the most passionate fans in the world and provide them with a platform to try and get them to where they want to go in their career. We’re proud to share the news of our former Lakers Nation host, Jason Barquero, who has been selected as one of the top 20 finalists to become the next public address announcer for the San Diego Padres.

With Barquero pursuing his life-long dream of getting into the broadcasting industry, he initially got his start with Lakers Nation back in 2009 according to Christian Brown of The Downey Patriot:

“Although Barquero handled mostly areas relating to public relations and marketing, he eventually was noticed by popular blog site LakersNation.com, which hired him to follow the Lakers team and produce on-camera news reports.”

Check out the interview Jason did with Kareem Abdul-Jabbar:

Despite over 700 people auditioning for the position, Barquero’s experiences with numerous sports internships over the years enabled him to reach the final 20:

“I just went in and did my thing,” Barquero said. “I showed up at 9 a.m. on that Saturday and filled out a one-page application with my professional background. I received an e-mail from human resources later saying I was one of the 20 finalists. It’s very talented based.”

If Barquero is chosen, he will announce the starting line-up and make stadium announcements for all 81 homes games next season. Although Barquero and his family will have to make sacrifices, it’s an opportunity that can’t be passed and will allow him to live his childhood dreams.

From the entire staff at Lakers Nation, we are extremely proud of our former host and wish him well as he looks to become the next San Diego Padres public address announcer!
