Lakers Nation Interviews Byron Scott, Chat 18-Year Old Kobe

The Los Angeles Lakers officially introduced Byron Scott as their new head coach on Tuesday morning with the help of Magic Johnson, Jamaal Wilkes and Kareem Abdul-Jabbar. After quite a lengthy hiring process, Scott’s introduction, surrounded by Lakers greats, was well worth it.

Lakers Nation grabs Scott for an interview, who talks about what is was like to spend his last season as a player in the NBA (1996-97 season), mentoring an 18-year old Kobe Bryant.

“I remember Kobe and I sitting down talking and I said, ‘What is it that you want to do in this league?’ Scott told LakersNation.com. “And he looked me in the eyes and said ‘B, I want to be the best basketball player in the league,’ and I looked him back in the eye and said said you will be, I truly believe you will be.”

Plus, Scott talks what it was like coaching from a studio as a sports analyst for the Lakers on Time Warner Cable SportsNet versus having the opportunity to be on the sidelines. And, after weeks of waiting for the official news, what would Scott like to now tell Lakers fans? It’s all in our exclusive interview above.
