It appears the Buss family drama has finally come to an end, at least temporarily. On Monday morning, Jim Buss stepped down as a trustee of the Lakers. The move came weeks after Jim and brother Johnny reportedly attempted a coup to oust Jeanie as the controlling owner of the Lakers.
Jim and Jeanie have had a rocky relationship over the years that was heightened after the latter opted to remove the former as president of basketball operations last month. Jim and Jeanie had clashed throughout the years, and their relationship seemed irreparable after Jim opted to sign Mike D’Antoni as head coach instead of Jeanie’s fiancee Phil Jackson in 2012.
Now that Jim has been removed, the Lakers can focus on an important offseason. The front office, ownership, and coaching all seem on the same page for the first time in years for the Lakers. Now, hopefully they can turn around the once proud franchise.
