Lakers Nation Week in Review: Feb. 12 – Feb. 18

It was a relatively light week for the Lakers, with just three games. They began last Sunday in Toronto, finishing off their season-long road trip against the Raptors. With a mid-week showdown against the Atlanta Hawks and a Friday night meeting with the Phoenix Suns, the Lakers had plenty of time to get some rest.

Still, the Lakers find themselves on a three-game winning streak after defeating Phoenix on Friday, and will look to extend it to four when they take to the road to face the Suns again this upcoming Sunday. But, before we look ahead to next week let’s take a look back at last week.

Game Recaps

Kobe Bryant once again leads the way to victory over the Phoenix Suns. Bryant, with some help from Andrew Bynum, led the Lakers to their third straight win.

L.A. defeated the Atlanta Hawks after an impressive performance from both Andrew Bynum and Pau Gasol. The Lakers survived a poor shooting night from Kobe Bryant to defeat one of the contending teams in the Eastern Conference.

The Lakers finished off their six-game road trip with a victory over the Toronto Raptors. After a disappointing loss to the New York Knicks the game before, the Lakers rebounded with a win over the Raptors to finish their road trip 3-3.

News of the Week

Pau Gasol found himself at the center of more trade rumors this week
. The latest reports are saying that the Minnesota Timberwolves are interested in Gasol in exchange for rookie Derrick Williams and some draft picks.

Los Angeles assigned second-year forward Devin Ebanks to the D-League. Ebanks, who started the season in the starting lineup, has seen his playing time disappear behind Metta World Peace and Matt Barnes.

Los Angeles’ interest in Gilbert Arenas is reportedly limited. The rumors surrounding the Lakers and Arenas continue to swirl, but according to general manager Mitch Kupchak their interest is tepid.

Several members of the Lakers are reportedly unhappy with Metta World Peace. Apparently some of World Peace’s comments and antics in the locker room are beginning to wear a bit thin for some other players on the team.

Kobe Bryant still holds grudges against the teams that didn’t draft him in 1996. Bryant was drafted with the 13th overall pick back in 96 by the Charlotte Hornets. He recently admitted that he’s still bitter at all the teams that overlooked him.
