Despite the lockout there is still a relative amount of action circulating around the NBA. While the teams aren’t allowed to trade or even communicate with their players there is still a decent amount of news to announce.

Here’s a list of some of the news from the Lakers and from around the rest of the NBA and the basketball world from the past week.

Kobe Bryant is still making headlines, this time at his summer camp. Bryant showed off his recently repaired knee by performing some big dunks. The dunk even reached SportsCenter’s Top Plays:

“Guess that knee procedure in Germany helped a little? Check out this Dunk by Mr. Kobe Bryant at his annual Kobe Academy Basketball Camp going on in Santa Barbara, CA. We got you covered with multiple angles.” [Read more]

Yao Ming, the number one overall draft pick from the 2002 NBA Draft retired amidst consistent injuries:

“Yao’s main problem has been a foot injury that he sustained against the Los Angeles Lakers during Game 3 of the 2009 Western Conference Semi-Finals. Since then Yao has missed nearly two full seasons, coming back briefly in 2011 before being forced to shut it down for good.” [Read more]

Kobe Bryant released a new clothing line known as K.O.B.E. One member of Lakers Nation was lucky enough to be at the release and got to meet the Black Mamba himself:

“Earlier this week, Kobe Bryant made a rather quick stop at the CRSVR sneaker store in Santa Barbara to promote his new Nike Sportswear K.O.B.E. Collection. One Lakers Nation fan was lucky enough to encounter the Black Mamba first hand and tell of her experience.”[Read more]

Lakers hire Ettore Messina as a coaching consultant for new head coach Mike Brown:

“Messina spent the last two years as the head coach of the Spanish League Club, Real Madrid. Before coaching Real Madrid, Messina was head coach of CSKA Moscow from 2005-2009.” [Read more]

Kobe Bryant invited former assistant coach Brian Shaw to his summer camp:

“At the beginning of the season, many Lakers “experts” predicted that Brian Shaw was to be the heir apparent to Phil Jackson because of his familiarity with Jackson’s Triangle Offense. As the season roller-coastered into a four game sweep to the eventual NBA Champion Dallas Mavericks, those experts still held to their believe that Shaw was the man.” [Read more]
