Despite a strong start to the season, the Lakers looks like they will miss out on the playoffs for the fourth consecutive year. With the trade deadline quickly approaching, the team could look to make deals to better position themselves in the upcoming draft.
As of now, the Lakers have an outside shot of keeping their own pick, which is only top-3 protected. Despite this, the Lakers are reportedly “not overly interested” in making a trade before the deadline.

Management isn’t ready to quit on the young core yet, and the Lakers don’t have much else that would be of interest in a trade. The only other pieces they could move would be the duo of Lou Williams and Nick Young. Both have played exceptionally with the former arguably being the Lakers best player on the season.
The Lakers would be smart to make another deal similar to the one they made for Jeremy Lin. The Lakers took on Lin’s contract in order to get a first round pick, which landed them Larry Nance Jr. Whether they have the capability or pieces to land a deal like that remains to be seen.
