Lakers News And Rumors Recap: Return Home Could Provide Clarity

Kobe Bryant

With a day off following Monday’s overtime loss to the Chicago Bulls, the stories of the day again revolved around injuries.

After suffering a bone bruise in his right knee on Dec. 29, Xavier Henry took to the court to test his knee on Jan. 14 and again on Wednesday with running drills.  A return date has yet to be set for Henry, but he will at the very least miss the Lakers next two road games against Miami and Orlando.

As for Kobe Bryant’s return, he is now scheduled to be re-evaluated at the conclusion of the Lakers seven-game road trip.  Bryant suffered a fracture in his knee against the Memphis Grizzlies on Dec. 17 and the initial prognosis had him missing approximately six weeks.

The update to Bryant’s re-evaluation comes after the Lakers announced it had been pushed back to February.  With the Lakers struggling to simply hold five-on-five practices, Bryant’s and Henry’s return is much-needed.

Along with Bryant, Steve Nash will also be re-evaluated when the Lakers return home from the road.  Nash has been dealing with back and hamstring injuries, as well as nerve root issues and hasn’t played since Nov. 10.

Joining his backcourt teammates, Steve Blake will make a visit to the doctor to have his right elbow examined when the team returns to Los Angeles.
