Lakers News: Coach D’Antoni Hopes For Steve Nash Return Next Tuesday

Steve Nash

Of all of the disappointments of this season, one of the biggest has been the absence of Steve Nash. Hoping to regain his previous form, Nash worked tirelessly to prepare himself for this season, but has only played in six games this season as he never quite recovered from his leg injury of last season, leading to nerve root irritation in his back.

Nash has not played since November, and averaged just under seven points and five assists during the early season, but he may be back soon as the LA Times’ Mike Bresnahan reports that Nash could return as soon as next week:

Nash is one of five Lakers to be injured after starting at point guard this season. His return would be a huge boost for the team, if for nothing else than adding depth to a roster depleted of healthy bodies. Kendall Marshall is the team’s only true point guard right now.

Next Tuesday marks the team’s first home game in two weeks and the team will be facing the Indiana Pacers who currently boast the best record in the NBA, so the Lakers will need all the help they can get.

With Xavier Henry seemingly on his way back, Jordan Farmar looking to return in a couple of weeks, and Kobe Bryant set to be re-evaluated soon, things finally seem to be falling the Lakers way. At the very least, they will finally be able to suit up 12 healthy players, which is something they haven’t been able to do for a while.
