When the Los Angeles Lakers selected D’Angelo Russell during the NBA Draft, many viewed the Ohio State point guard as some form of savior to a franchise that isn’t used to losing on a consistent basis.

In order to bank on Russell’s superstar potential, shoe company Nike went after the newest Laker. According to Russell himself on Twitter, he has joined the Nike family:
It's official NIKE! #JustDoIt ✔️✔️✔️✔️

As a result, Russell will wear Nikes when he steps on the court. He will join Kobe Bryant and Julius Randle as high profile Lakers to be under the Nike brand. Bryant is one of four NBA players with signature shoes with Nike with LeBron James, Kevin Durant, and Kyrie Irving as the others.
Should Russell meet or even exceed the expectations many have placed on him, it isn’t out of the question for Russell to have his own signature shoe down the line.
Russell’s NBA career has gotten off to a somewhat rocky start after four games in the Las Vegas Summer League. High turnovers and ineffective shooting has generally been Russell’s problems as he gets used to the NBA’s pace and tries to develop chemistry with his new teammates.
During the Lakers’ close loss to the Dallas Mavericks Wednesday, Russell showed flashes of who he can become. He looked for his teammates and tried to create plays for them. One highlight came from delivering a bounce pass while airborne to Tarik Black who finished with a wide open slam dunk.
