After working out numerous prospects for their late first and early second round picks these past two weeks, the Los Angeles Lakers recently worked out their first top-five prospect in Emmanuel Mudiay from China on Saturday.

After meeting with the Lakers basketball operations department over dinner on Sunday, D’Angelo Russell from Ohio State will now work out for the storied franchise tomorrow according to Bill Oram of the Orange County Register:

Lakers have six guys in tomorrow morning for a 27/34 workout then D’Angelo Russell on his own.

While Karl-Anthony Towns and Jahlil Okafor are considered this year’s top prospects, the Lakers will evaluate all of their options including Russell. In a time where guards are dominating the league, the franchise could look to continue the trend instead of choosing a big man.

With the point guard position being a weakness, the Lakers found a gem in Jordan Clarkson, who was the 46th overall pick in the 2014 NBA Draft and was recently named to the NBA’s All-Rookie First team. Should the Lakers select Russell on June 25 if he is available, they will have a young and promising backcourt post-Kobe Bryant era.
