Jeremy Lin recently participated in local Taiwanese Christian TV Program GOOD TV. Lin recounted various struggles he had gone through in his NBA career and talked about how his faith in God allowed him to persevere.

One of the struggles that Lin described was the intense pre-game anxiety he felt up to the beginning of last season:
Most of you guys don’t know this. Ever since college I’ve struggled tremendously with pre-gaming anxiety. During my last two years of college and my first four years in the NBA, before every single game I would get so nervous and scared of playing poorly. No matter what I did, I could never shake free of my pre-game anxiety. And I remembered hating and dreading game days because I would get so nervous. Sometimes it was so bad I couldn’t sleep the night before and I couldn’t eat the day of the game
Lin says that this anxiety was fueled to a greater degree when the Houston Rockets coaching staff told him that his starting position was up in the air. Lin says that he meditated on a verse in the bible (Joshua 1:9) which encouraged him not to be afraid and to trust in God.

Lin eventually lost his starting position to guard Patrick Beverley and came off the bench for the majority of the season. Yet, Lin says that he learned to be at peace and even started playing computer game, DOTA 2 before games.
Lin’s pre-game anxiety was probably made worse by the immense pressures of his amazing performances during the “Linsanity” period in New York. Lin’s popularity has gone down in recent times with decreased production during his time with the Rockets.
Lin was recently acquired by the Los Angeles Lakers and it remains to be seen whether he will get the starting job or be forced to come off the bench. Regardless, Lin has stated that he strives to give everything he has on the court and is hoping for a more important role for the Lakers next season.
