The Los Angeles Lakers extended their win streak to three games with their victory over the New Orleans Pelicans and of course it was Luka Doncic and LeBron James leading the way. Both superstars scored 30 points with James adding eight rebounds and eight assists while Doncic dished out 10 assists.
Many of those Luka assists were to LeBron himself as the two were clearly locked in on the same page. Multiple times throughout the game the two found each other for open looks and easy buckets and Lakers head coach JJ Redick loves what he is seeing.
After the victory, Redick spoke about how amazing James was while noting that the duo are developing some real synergy on the court, via Spectrum SportsNet:
“He was awesome tonight. Just kind of took over to start the fourth and that group got us the lead back. I love what’s happening right now with Luka and LeBron and that partnership. Whether it’s pick-and-roll with each other, we ran stack against their blitz, Jaxson gets a layup. Luka kinda tells LeBron back cut next time, he gets the lob on the very next play. There’s some real synergy happening right now that it’s fun to watch.”
The highlight of the night was undoubtedly that lob play that Redick spoke about. Doncic threw an outstanding pass from the perimeter that was right on the money and James elevated in a way no 41-year old should be able to for the impressive dunk.
What is great about Luka and LeBron is that they are both such high IQ players with unreal court vision. Sometimes it feels like they’re reading each other’s minds and that was on full display in New Orleans.
Even though they have been teammates for almost a year now, Doncic and James haven’t played even a full season’s worth of games together so there is still plenty of room for them to grow as a duo. And that continued growth and synergy will only make the Lakers that much more dangerous.
LeBron James: Lakers players must adjust their game to Luka Doncic
One of the questions when the Lakers first traded for Doncic was who would be the team’s primary creator and playmaker as James has always operated with the ball in his hand. But LeBron has always said that this is Luka’s team and he emphasized the need for all the players on the roster to be able to adjust their game to fit around him.
