The Los Angeles Lakers began their summer earlier than expected, and their players will have some time to reflect and get better before the 2013-14 season tips off.
The off-season will also allow the Lakers to heal as injuries thwarted them from making a serious push for another championship. Players like Kobe Bryant, Pau Gasol and Steve Nash will try to heal up this off season, but Jodie Meeks will be spending his summer in a classroom trying to get his marketing degree.

Lakers.com writes that the Lakers’ guard will make his way back to the University of Kentucky campus to finish his remaining courses. Meeks left Kentucky for the NBA Draft after his junior year of college, and he promised his parents that he will earn a degree some time in the future.
“When I was making my decision if I was going to leave school after my junior year, I told myself and my family that I was going to return to finish school,” Meeks explained to Lakers.com over the phone. “I still have 18 hours left. I took a class in the summers of 2010 and 2011 and am taking one again, trying to chip away so that in a couple more summers I’ll be done.”
Both of Meeks’ parents hold diplomas, and they are hoping their son can follow in their footsteps. Although summers for most athletes are quite busy, Meeks has set aside his time in order to make his parents proud.
Once his courses for the summer have wrapped up, Meeks will set his sights on getting better for next season. Meeks also dealt with injuries in 2013, and he is hoping to fully heal them before getting back on the court.
