*Correction: since initial posting it was reported by the same site that initially said Abdul-Jabbar was interested in the Bucks’ coaching job that he was never actually contacted by the author and asked if he would be interested in coaching for the Bucks.

Lakers legend Kareem Abdul-Jabbar responded “of course” during a recent interview with OnMilwaukee, when asked whether or not he would coach the Milwaukee Bucks. Abdul-Jabbar has spent parts of this season and previous seasons working with Lakers big men Andrew Bynum and now Dwight Howard. Abdul Jabbar goes onto say:

“Of course, I know how to prepare for a season as an individual and I know what that means in terms of team commitment”.

Milwaukee fired Scott Skiles on January 8th of this year, and have since replaced him with Jim Boylan. The Bucks are in eighth place in the East and general manager John Hammond stated that Boylan wasn’t an interim coach, but “the coach for the rest of the season.”

While Kareem hasn’t come out and said he wants to be the coach of the team nor has he asked for the job, it seems being a special advisor to the Lakers this season spiked his coaching curiosity. He is highly respected throughout the game and would definitely be able to cater to the skills of the young Bucks players. Kareem even goes so far as talking about what type of coach he would be:

“I’d be a coach who can provide respect and keep the guys on the same page for a whole season”.

Time will tell if the Bucks will entertain Abdul-Jabbar, but it seems he wouldn’t shy away from the job. The Bucks are currently in the eighth spot in the East and have a 15-12 record under Boylan.
