Kobe recently sat down with Jacques Slade of Complex.com to answer questions about his inspirations for the Kobe Elite Series as well which shoe he favors from his collection with Nike.
Kobe gave credit to classic artists such as Michelangelo and Picasso and wants the fans of today to see where he gets his inspiration from.
It’s getting toward the end of my career and I think it’s important for the kids nowadays when they look at they way I play and the attention to detail, they understand where that comes from. And the only way to do that is to pay homage to muses that I’ve had in my life.
Kobe has had an illustrious career, but now that his days are becoming numbered, he wants to pay homage to all those who have had an impact on him on and off the court. The Kobe series has been known to make drastic changes, for instance, going to a non-traditional low cut ankle, and the new designs for the Kobe 9 are no exception.
Kobe signed with Nike in 2003, and the two have collaborated on a multitude of groundbreaking shoes. With so many options, Kobe was asked to pick his favorite among his vast collection.
I think the first shoe that we designed together was the most special one. It was when I first signed with Nike and we did the 2K4.
The Kobe System has come a long way since its inception back in 2003, and will only continue to grow. Kobe has never failed to disappoint, and with the success of the Kobe 9 so far, the future looks bright for future of Kobe shoes.
