The backcourt combination of Kobe Bryant and Steve Nash was expected to bring another championship to Los Angeles. Unfortunately, thanks to injuries to both, we have rarely seen the two operate together as teammates.

Despite that, the two still hold each other in high regard, and Bryant respects Nash’s game immensely. In an appearance on NASH: The Documentary, Kobe had high praise for Nash and the way he plays:
“He brought back basketball the way it’s supposed to be played, like when Bird was a player and when Magic was a player.”
As a former two-time MVP, Nash showed himself to be one of the best pure point guards in the history of the NBA. He didn’t dominate the game by scoring, but rather by elevating his teammates in a way that few had ever done.
Kobe’s comparison to Magic and Bird may seem like a stretch to some, but it makes sense. Both Bird and Magic were excellent teammates in addition to being amazing players. Their passing ability and court vision truly elevated their teammates as well as themselves, much like Nash.
If the Lakers plan on making a quick turnaround, it would really help to have Steve Nash healthy and contributing. While there is still a possibility that he may retire, he is going to do everything in his power to get back on the court.

When Nash has played, he has shown flashes of that passing and vision that has made him a probable Hall of Famer. Once the Lakers find their coach and fill out the rest of the roster, Nash can play a big role in getting this team back to the playoffs.
