The Los Angeles Lakers will be without Kobe Bryant for the last two preseason games. Kobe will rest until the season opener on Oct. 28 against the Houston Rockets, according to Mike Bresnahan of the L.A. Times:

Kobe Bryant will not play the Lakers' last two exhibition games. He's going to rest. Opener is next Tuesday vs. Houston.

Kobe is coming off perhaps his best performance since returning from the knee injury suffered in December of 2013. The five-time NBA champion scored a game-high 27 points in the overtime loss to the Phoenix Suns on Tuesday night at the Honda Center.

Although the Lakers did end up losing to their division rivals, Los Angeles played well from start to finish with Kobe putting on a show in the fourth quarter. The veteran shooting guard hit three clutch shots to go along with two free throws that kept them in the game near the end of regulation.

Before preseason got underway, head coach Byron Scott did say that he expected Kobe to play all eight games. Scott is clearly taking the cautious approach with Bryant by holding him out these last two exhibition games before the 82-game regular season tips off next Tuesday night at the Staples Center against the Houston Rockets.
