Lakers News: Kobe Comments On Sitting Out For Remainder Of Season

After months of a Lakers team without Kobe Bryant, it will now officially be an entire season without their franchise player. He has been out with a fractured knee since December. Kobe made it clear that he did not want to sit the rest of the season out, and he is undoubtedly disappointed in the way this season will end for him. This blow is especially upsetting considering the torn achilles he suffered last year.

According to Kevin Ding of Bleacher Report, Kobe had a few comments regarding the end of his 2013-2014 season:

His fractured knee has had him out of the game since September, and he has only played in six games this season. Taking the season off seems to be the best course of action despite Kobe’s reluctance. Letting himself fully heal for next season gives him the most optimal chance at returning to the NBA the best player he can be.

There is seemingly no point for the 35-year-old try and make a comeback this season when this Lakers season is practically over.

The team is currently sporting a record of 22-42 which makes them tied with the Sacramento Kings for the worst team in the Western Conference. Especially with Bryant signing a two-year $48.5 million contract extension in November, it makes no sense for him to return.

The Lakers will now embark on the remainder of their losing season without their star player.
