Lakers News: Kupchak Wants Nick Young To Be A Laker ‘For A Long Time’

Nick Young is currently leading the Lakers in scoring at over 16 points per game, and his energy and personality in the locker room has kept the team’s spirits up despite the numerous injuries, and the Lakers recent slump, having lost 10 of their last 11 games.

Lakers General Manager Mitch Kupchak has taken notice of Young’s play. Young has a player option after this season, and regardless of what he chooses to do, Kupchak, in an interview with Mike Trudell, said that he wants to keep Young in purple and gold:

Going forward, there are a number of things to determine. Who knows. Money is important to Nick as to all players, but you can watch him play and he just loves to play. Some guys treat it as a job, but Nick loves to play. He has fun and basketball is a big part of who it is. Whatever he decides to do with his opt out … we’d certainly like to see him be a Laker for a long time.

Young would definitely be an excellent part of any contending team as he thrives as an explosive scorer off the bench. As the Lakers move forward, looking to add new players to the roster, Young is definitely one who fits in with the culture and whom the fans love.

Young will undoubtedly receive much more lucrative offers if he decides to opt out after this season, but it seems like Kupchak is set on keeping him around as long as the price is right.
