Lakers News: L.A. Expresses Interest In Re-Signing Ed Davis

Ed Davis

After opting out of the final year of his deal with the Los Angeles Lakers, forward/center Ed Davis expressed considerable interest in re-signing with the team long-term. Although Davis wants to remain in Los Angeles, there’s no telling if the Lakers will be able to make that happen with their focus on bringing in a max player.

According to Mark Medina of the Los Angeles Daily News, the Lakers reached out to Davis to express their interest in re-signing him once free agency got underway:

The Lakers repeated something to Ed Davis’ representatives on Tuesday night that they have said throughout the course of the 2014-15 season.

The Lakers expressed interest in retaining Davis, according to a league source familiar with the situation

As Medina points out, Davis recorded career-high numbers across the board last season proving his worth to the team and the rest of the league:

He posted career-highs in scoring (8.3 points a game), field-goal percentage (60.1), rebounding (7.6), blocked shots (1.2) and assists (1.2) in his fifth NBA season. Whether that happens, however, remains in question.

With the Lakers fully focused on bringing in a big-name in free agency like Kevin Love, DeAndre Jordan, Greg Monroe or LaMarcus Aldridge, Davis will likely have to wait to until the dust settles with these potential max players before entering serious contract talks with Los Angeles.

That being said, other teams around the league with interest in Davis will likely court the veteran in the meantime.
