Lakers News: L.A. Officially Signs Lou Williams In NBA Free Agency

Coming into free agency, the Los Angeles Lakers had high hopes of landing their top-tier names. Unfortunately, the team was unable to secure their initial targets and sought other avenues with their cap space. One route the Lakers took was by reaching out to the reigning Sixth Man of the Year, Lou Williams.

With the NBA’s free agent moratorium period coming to an end on Wednesday night, the Lakers were able to sign players to new contracts. According to the official Twitter account, Williams is officially a member of the team:

Williams is a great scoring option of the bench. Despite averaging a career high 15.5 points per game last season, the Toronto Raptors didn’t offer him a contract, leaving him available for other teams. The Lakers reached out to Williams’ camp early on and continued to express interest in getting an agreement days into the process.

The Lakers are hoping Williams can repeat his performance last season and give the team a much needed boost. The team has struggled for the past two seasons with a lack of talent and could use someone of Williams’ caliber. Williams is looking forward to the opportunity of defending his Sixth Man of the Year title with the Lakers.

Los Angeles will be the fourth team Williams plays for in his career having spent time with the Philadelphia 76ers, Atlanta Hawks and Raptors.
