Heading into the 2016-17 season, the Los Angeles Lakers have worked hard to improve their game steadily while adjusting to head coach Luke Walton’s newly implemented system. With the NBA evolving away from the days of low-post scoring, forwards such as Larry Nance Jr. and Julius Randle have stretched their game away from the basket.
With an expected up-tempo offense, the Lakers will be able to stretch the floor out in order to open up lanes in their new offense. Many NBA franchises are following in the footsteps of Mike D’Antoni and Steve Kerr, in terms of implementing a small-ball style of offense.
Nance Jr. echoed similar thoughts, stating that Walton’s new system reflects around that up-tempo pace.
Entering his second season in the NBA, the Ohio native will have a little more freedom on the court. He also knows that being able to space the floor with his jumper is crucial to his growth.
During the Lakers annual media day on Monday, Nance provided some clarification regarding how much effort has been put into the development of the long ball:

Nance, who enters training camp 100 percent recovered from the wrist injury sustained in summer league, has been steadily improving his game this summer. The forward gavehints about his improved shooting range in late August, noting it is something to expect during the season.
The impressive athlete provided constant entertainment on the court, with his dazzling dunks and effort plays around the rim. While his athletic abilities have helped his defensive prowess on the court, the 23-year-old stated he wants some tips from proven professionals:

Walton noted some improvements shown by Nance Jr. during their summer scrimmages, as the young core constantly met together to improve their game during the offseason. Nance picking things up from the likes of World Peace and Deng, two of the best defenders the NBA has seen recently, will only make him that much better.
During his rookie campaign, 27th overall pick in the 2015 draft averaged 5.5 points, five rebounds and 0.9 steals per game.
