It seems like it has been said so many times over the past couple of years, but Los Angeles Lakers superstar LeBron James continues to make plays that should be impossible for a player at his age and at this stage of his career.

That was the case in the Lakers’ win over the Houston Rockets on Monday night as James threw down a dunk over Rockets forward Jabari Smith Jr. in the first half. Then in the second, he skied to catch an alley-oop from Austin Reaves that again brought the crowd to their feet.

Basketball fans everywhere continue to be surprised that LeBron is still able to make these kinds of athletic plays and the Lakers superstar admitted that he sometimes surprises himself with some of the things he does.

“It kinda is, yeah. It kinda is at times,” James said on Spectrum SportsNet after the win. “I don’t know if any of those surprised me. I mean the one in the first half, I seen him tracking me. He’s a pretty good shot blocker so I had to throw that down. The lob from AR, I told him to throw it so I had to go get it. But there’s some plays that I still do at this point in my career where it definitely surprises me for sure.”

While some things can be debated, one thing that can’t is that there has never been any player in NBA history who is still as good as LeBron is, this late into his career. No one else has even played this many seasons, so for him to continue to perform at an All-Star level is just unbelievable.

James and the Lakers are clicking at the right time and every time he makes one of those kinds of plays, it brings the energy of the entire team up and now they are looking like a team that can do damage in the postseason.

JJ Redick appreciates LeBron James diving for loose ball

If it wasn’t one of those dunks against the Rockets that surprised him, then perhaps doing a full horizontal layout in the Lakers’ win over the Denver Nuggets shocked James. With that play, he noted that he can’t remember a time in which he did that in his basketball career and head coach JJ Redick said he had never seen LeBron do that either, so he appreciated the 41-year-old making that type of effort.
