The Los Angeles Lakers decided to keep the seventh overall pick in the 2014 NBA draft going with Julius Randle out of the University of Kentucky, according to ESPN’s Ramona Shelburne:

Heading into the draft on Thursday, rumors were circulating that the Lakers were considering making a trade to send their pick and Steve Nash elsewhere. Obviously, the team chose go in another direction and will bring in Randle to help the rebuilding process in Los Angeles.

With Randle, the Lakers bring in a forward to help bolster the frontcourt in Los Angeles. Pau Gasol, Jordan Hill and Chris Kaman are all set to become free agents next month and Randle’s presence should help the transition if most or all these players leave in free agency.
