The physical transformation of Los Angeles Lakers superstar Luka Doncic has been one of the biggest stories of the offseason. Doncic has lost a significant amount of weight and looks to be in the best shape of his career heading into his first full season with the Lakers.
This is something Lakers head coach JJ Redick mentioned about the entire team following their playoff loss to the Minnesota Timberwolves. Redick said everyone on the Lakers needed to get into elite championship shape and franchise legend Magic Johnson believes Doncic is setting the tone.
Luka was recently featured in Men’s Health Magazine discussing his transformation and workout routines and Magic took to social media to express how happy he is that the superstar is showing his Lakers teammates how serious he is about winning in L.A.

A team will always follow its leaders and Doncic is certainly leading by example in this instance. His weight and conditioning were a source of concern for the Mavericks, but Luka is making that a thing of the past with his dedication this offseason. In fact, Doncic didn’t even touch a basketball for a month as he focused solely on transforming his body.
With Luka being in this level of shape, and of course LeBron James always being in peak physical condition, there is no excuse for anyone on the Lakers to not do the same. There is a bar set and the rest of the team will need to match it as Doncic has made it clear his goal is to win championships in Los Angeles.
Of course, everything else must still fall into place, but this is a great first step for Doncic and the Lakers and Johnson clearly recognizes that and is excited for what this could mean for the team.
Lakers’ Luka Doncic avoids talking about contract extension
The expectation is for Luka Doncic to be with the Lakers for the foreseeable future, but that also requires him to sign a contract extension with the franchise. He becomes eligible on Aug. 2 and most expect for him to sign either a three or four-year deal to remain in purple and gold.
But since he still isn’t eligible just yet, Doncic played it safe in his appearance on a talk show and avoided discussing his extension.
