In just his third season in the NBA, MarShon Brooks has played on four teams.  This season alone, Brooks has played for the Boston Celtics, Golden State Warriors and now the Los Angeles Lakers.  Given an opportunity to play significant minutes with the Lakers, Brooks is averaging 13.8 points per game in the purple and gold, which is up from his career average of 8.0 points per game.

The 25-year-old guard out of Providence was drafted No. 25 by the Celtics in the 2011 and was immediately traded to the Nets.  He managed to start in 47 games during his rookie season and averaged 12.6 points per game.  However, Brooks’ minutes and production were essentially cut in half the following season as the Nets signed Joe Johnson, which Brooks believes set off a chain reaction, according to Serena Winters of Lakers Nation:

MarShon Brooks: “Since my sophomore year, I was in & out of the rotation & it wasn’t ever because I was playing bad. It was just luck.”

The Lakers acquired Brooks and Kent Bazemore in the trade that sent Steve Blake to the Warriors.  While Bazemore hasn’t bounced around the league like Brooks has, he too has struggled to see consistent playing time and he spoke highly of his teammate following the Lakers win over the Sacramento Kings.

Brooks scored 23 points on Friday night, which is just four points shy of his career-high that he set against the Cleveland Cavaliers last season.  Since joining the Lakers, Brooks has scored at least 11 points in four of five games on an impressive 59.6 shooting percentage from the field.  With Kobe Bryant’s return still an uncertainty, Brooks figures to continue receiving plenty of playing time moving forward and should continue to flourish in Mike D’Antoni’s offense.
