With the worst season in franchise history finally over, the Los Angeles Lakers will focus on an off-season potentially filled with drastic changes. Many players will be coming and going this summer with Nick Young being the player on the current roster getting more attention than most.

Along with becoming a fan favorite in Los Angeles this season, Young has also been in the spotlight off the floor while dating rapper Iggy Azalea and frequently showing up on TMZ.

Recently, Young said something that will turn a lot of heads in Los Angeles by saying that he’s better than teammate Kobe Bryant. Young sat down with EOnline.com to talk about his future and said the following about his mentor, Kobe:

“Oh, Kobe will kill me for this one,” Nick laughs when asked if he’s better than Kobe. “But yeah, I think so. Right now, you know. You can’t guard me right now!” Good-natured ribbing and trash talk is nothing new between ball players—The Black Mamba and Swaggy have playfully thrown shade at each other this season.

It would be safe to say that Young made arguably the worst season in Lakers history somewhat bearable. Not only was Young entertaining on the floor with his ability to light up the scoreboard off the bench, but the show continued in the locker room.

Although Young showed he can still be a forced to be reckoned with in the NBA, the veteran sixth man claiming to be a better player than Kobe is a bit of a stretch. Kobe may not be the player of old after two season-ending injuries, but that was a bold statement to say the least.

If Young does end up returning to the Lakers next season, there’s no doubt that Kobe will look to make an example of him during scrimmages in practice. Otherwise, Kobe will almost certainly circle the date in which the Lakers are set to face Young’s new team with every intention of destroying him.
