The Los Angeles Lakers currently find themselves on a two game winning streak after defeating the Utah Jazz Wednesday night. Coming into the game, the Lakers were shorthanded after Ronnie Price was ruled out for six to eight weeks and Nick Young missed the game with a knee injury.

Young received treatment during Thursday’s practice and Lakers are officially listing him as questionable for tomorrow. However, Young told Mark Medina of the Los Angeles Daily News he will not play:

After leading the Lakers in scoring last year, Young has struggled this season. His numbers have been down and his shooting percentage has dropped to a career-low 37 percent. Young still is a valuable offensive weapon despite only averaging 13.4 points per game.

His effort has often been criticized by head coach Byron Scott who wishes for Young to become more than just a scorer. Young seemed up to task during the Lakers’ overtime win against the Boston Celtics by coming up big on the defensive end. Late in the game, Young blocked Evan Turner and helped secure the Lakers victory.

Young is one of the few Lakers signed on into next season. The Lakers are going to need Young on the court and scoring for him to be a valuable piece. If he were to continue his two-way effort once he returns from injury, his importance would increase.
