Los Angeles Lakers star LeBron James’ greatness and longevity is unmatched as he continues to play at a high level in his 23rd NBA season, setting numerous records along the way.
The latest record for James was passing Kareem Abdul-Jabbar for the most made field goals in NBA history, something he accomplished in the first quarter of Thursday night’s loss to the Denver Nuggets. The 41-year-old needed just three field goals to break the record and wasted no time doing so.
While James would have preferred it to come in a win, it’s still an awesome accomplishment worth celebrating. And after the game, Nuggets star Nikola Jokic made sure to give LeBron his flowers, via NBA on X:
“He’s a really, really, really legendary player in this league. What he did and how consistent he is through his life, or career or whatever, and he’s still influencing the game and teams are still preparing for him, even in whatever year he is in the NBA. He is still pushing the pace, he is still leading the league probably in transition points. He’s definitely a legendary player.”
Jokic and James have always shared a mutual respect as two of the greatest players to ever step foot in the NBA. As LeBron nears the end of his career, he has essentially turned the reigns over to Jokic as one of the faces of the league.
The Lakers and Nuggets have had some great battles in recent years, defeating each other in the Western Conference Finals in each of their championship runs this decade. Through it all though, it is clear that James and Jokic have maintained their respect and admiration for each other.
With them both in the playoff mix once again though, it’s possible that another postseason series is on the horizon.

LeBron James has broken a lot of records in his career, and he reflected on what this latest one means to him.
“At the end of the day, just my name being linked to some of the greatest that have ever played this game has always been humbling and it’s a pretty cool thing. I grew up watching, reading, idolizing a lot of the greats. If I was ever able to be a [art of the NBA, I wanted to put myself in position where I could be named with some of the greats by doing something right. So that’s pretty cool.”
