Kobe Bryant

This morning, Lakers fans received an update on the status of Kobe Bryant’s return. While he has met all the targets and milestones in his rehabilitation, Bryant will likely not participate in the preseason.

It’s not surprising considering that Bryant is only five months into his rehabilitation. While some believe Bryant will return for the season opener against the Clippers, a more realistic timetable should be around late November or early December.

While his Achilles tendon may be healed in time for the start of the season, the most important thing for Bryant is to rebuild his strength and endurance in his knees, legs, back and core as Lakers spokesman John Black mentioned. Most players are injury-prone for the simple fact that their strength and conditioning are poor. As a result, it’s crucial that Bryant takes all the time he needs to avoid any setbacks after his return. Lakers fans are anxious to see him as soon as possible, but it’s best for everyone involved to make sure that Bryant is fully-recovered so we can watch him retire at a high level.
