Lakers News: Ryan Kelly Six Weeks From Basketball Activities

According to the Lakers’ official twitter account, 2013 second-round draft pick forward, Ryan Kelly, is at least six weeks away from running and jumping after his offseason foot surgery.

INJURY UPDATE: http://t.co/615wajM4SK @RyanKelly34 had a CT scan today & is a minimum of 6 weeks from being cleared for running and jumping.

— Los Angeles Lakers (@Lakers) July 11, 2013

After meeting with a foot specialist and undergoing a CT scan, it was determined that Kelly is further from his return than we previously had expected. Despite all reports saying that he would not play in the summer league, Kelly was listed on the official roster that was released today. This report only confirms that Kelly will most certainly be inactive for the entire duration of the summer league circuit.

Kelly had surgery in early April of 2013 to repair a fractured metatarsal that he suffered during the end of his senior season at Duke.

Classified as a stretch 4 who can shoot the three, the 6’11” Kelly is expected to garner a rotation spot this upcoming season in D’Antoni’s up-tempo, floor-spacing offense. During his final season at Duke, the forward averaged 12.9 points and 5.3 rebounds per game while shooting 42.2 percent from three-point range, a skill-set the Lakers lacked throughout all of last season.
