In last season’s playoffs, Steve Blake took and missed a pivotal three-point shot in Game 2 that would have won the game for the Lakers and tied the series heading back to Los Angeles. After the game, Laker fans took to Twitter and threatened Blake and his family.
Yesterday, on 710 ESPN Radio here in Los Angeless, Ramona Shelburne asked Blake about the shot and the fan reaction.
It’s kind of tough. You want the people to support you no matter what. It’s not like it’s my fault I got open – that’s just the way the game went. I hope people would respect I have the guts to even take a shot like that.
This is one of the few times Blake has actually discussed the fan reaction to his missed shot, which took place last May. While fans were certainly upset with Blake for missing that shot, they seemingly forgot the enormous role Blake played in the team’s Game 7 victory over the Denver Nuggets where Blake scored 19 points on 7-11 FG.
