With NBA free agency officially underway, the Los Angeles Lakers took to the phones in order to express interest in the free agents that caught their eye on the open market.

Quite a few of those phone calls went to players that were on the Lakers roster last season including sixth man Nick Young, according to Mike Bresnahan of the L.A. Times:

After an impressive first season with the Lakers, Young elected to opt out of his deal in order to test free agency this summer. Young has every intention on re-signing with the Lakers as long as they give him a boost in salary.

If Young were to opt-in, the veteran guard/forward would’ve made $1.2 million next season. Obviously, after averaging a team-high 17.9 point per game last season, Young feels he deserves a raise.

With the Lakers seemingly intent on going after LeBron James and Carmelo Anthony, Young will have to wait to see if there is a future in Los Angeles. Young quickly became a fan favorite while playing in purple and gold this past season and many hope for his return, but the market will likely dictate whether the Lakers re-sign him.

All signs appear to point to Young returning with all the support he’s received from the fans and the organization, but it remains to be seen if the two sides can come to an agreement on a new deal.
