In the 117-107 loss to the Washington Wizards on Friday night, guard Xavier Henry tore a ligament in his left wrist after falling on it in the third quarter.

On Monday, Henry was examined by a hand specialist, Dr. Shin, who confirmed the torn ligament which will need postseason surgery according to Lakers.com reporter Mike Trudell:

X. Henry saw Dr. Shin, who confirmed a tear of the scapholunate ligament in his wrist. Needs postseason surgery, but Henry can play w/it.

While Henry will need surgery this off-season, he will be able to play through the injury depending on the level of pain and discomfort:

Henry's visit to the Dr. was this morning, with the determination being made that he can play w/t wrist depending on the pain & discomfort.

After being sidelined for nearly two months with a bruised knee, Henry has played well in his return which was highlighted by a 24-point performance against the Spurs. While he has returned, head coach Mike D’Antoni suggested that Henry was still dealing with pain from the injury.

With 13 games left in the season and the Lakers already eliminated from the playoffs, it will be interesting to see if Henry will be able to play with this injury. In his fourth year in the league, Henry is having the best season of his career by averaging 10.1 points, 2.8 rebounds, and 1.3 assists per game.

Like many of the Lakers on the current roster, Henry will become a free agent this summer.
