Lakers Not Interested in Signing Brandon Roy

The news of Brandon Roy attempting an NBA comeback hit the headlines a little more than two weeks ago and the speculation began about where the three-time NBA All-Star would try to resurrect his career.

The Los Angeles Lakers were an obvious choice initially with a need for improvement in the scoring department and the front office exploring options to upgrade bench. Roy was thought to fit the bill as a potential free agent candidate.

Even though it appears to be an ideal situation for both Roy and the Lakers, Los Angeles apparently has no interest in signing the former Rookie of the Year according to Dave McMenamin of ESPNLosAngeles.com:

“According to a source familiar with the team’s thinking, the Lakers are not interested in Roy, the former Portland Trail Blazers All-Star guard who retired last December because of knee troubles.”

Despite money being tight this off-season in terms of signing free agents, the Lakers wouldn’t have a problem signing Roy to a one or two-year deal with the mini-midlevel of $3 million. It seems that the Lakers’ front office might have other plans for the mini-midlevel as Roy appears to be a risk that the team isn’t willing to take with their best bargaining chip in free agency.

Reportedly, Roy is receiving a lot of interest as of late with the Minnesota Timberwolves and the Golden State Warriors leading the pack. The Indiana Pacers, Dallas Mavericks and the Chicago Bulls are also showing some interest in signing Roy.
