Jordan Clarkson dropped far lower than he expected in the 2014 NBA Draft. The Lakers were quick to trade into the second round to grab the Missouri guard with the 46th pick. Now, the Lakers have announced they have officially signed him:

The Los Angeles Lakers have signed Jordan Clarkson, the 46th pick in the 2014 NBA Draft, whose rights were acquired from the Washington Wizards on draft night, it was announced today by General Manager Mitch Kupchak.

Clarkson was the best player on the Lakers’ Summer League team, leading them in points and rebounds, while shooting better than 40 percent from 3-point range.

At 6’5 with a long wingspan, Clarkson has the ability to play both guard positions, though he may struggle to see the court early as the Lakers have a number of guards on the roster. Guys like Jeremy Lin, Steve Nash, Nick Young, and Xavier Henry could all be above Clarkson on the depth chart to start the season.

Nonetheless, Clarkson gives the Lakers a young, athletic guard who can create off the dribble, and has the potential to be a lockdown defender. The team simply doesn’t have many players who can do those things.

At this time, there is no word on the exact details of the contract.
