Lakers Podcast: What Paul George’s Free Agency Comments Mean

The Los Angeles Lakers would love to sign Paul George this summer, but will he be willing to walk away from the Oklahoma City Thunder? With a limited amount of elite talent on the free agent market this summer, the Lakers will have to hope that they can find a way to convince George to return to his hometown.

George recently made comments about the Thunder and whether their success or failure in the playoffs would make an impact on his decision this summer when he hits free agency. Do these comments suggest a positive outcome for the Lakers or will the team be shunned by star players once again? Lakers Nation Podcast host Trevor Lane and guest Hannah Kulik discussed the topic.

Additionally, the team is currently struggling to offset injuries to Lonzo Ball, Isaiah Thomas, Brandon Ingram and Kyle Kuzma. Los Angeles has lost five of their last six games as a result of having such a diminished roster, and it appears that the players left standing are running out of gas.

Is this going to kill the momentum that the organization had heading into free agency this summer?

Plus, former Lakers general manager Mitch Kupchak has landed a new job running the Charlotte Hornets front office. Does he deserve another shot in the NBA after signing Luol Deng and Timofey Mozgov to their disastrous contracts?

The podcast concludes by taking fan questions, who ask about the Lakers’ options at center if Brook Lopez and DeMarcus Cousins are off the board, Tyler Ennis’ future with the team, ranking superstar forwards, and much more.

Trevor Lane is a longtime NBA and Los Angeles Lakers fan who had the good fortune to grow up during the glory days of the Showtime Lakers, when Magic Johnson, Kareem-Abdul-Jabbar, James Worthy, and the rest ruled the Great Western Forum. He has written about basketball, soccer, fantasy sports, MMA, and even pro wrestling over the course of his career, but the spectacle that is the Lakers is his true passion. He made the leap into podcasting for Lakers Nation and provides voice-over analysis for our YouTube channel. With a who's who of stars gracing the Lakers lineup over the years, including Kobe Bryant, LeBron James, Shaquille O'Neal, Pau Gasol, and many others, the Lakers always provide plenty to talk about. When he isn't writing or recording, Trevor can be found spending time with his wife and daughter or on the sidelines for one of the youth teams he coaches. Outside of the Lakers, Trevor is a supporter of the LA Galaxy, US Soccer, Dallas Cowboys, and Los Angeles Dodgers. Contact: trevor@mediumlargela.com
