Lakers Practice: Nick Young Sits Out, Team ‘Embarrassed’

Both Kobe Bryant and Nick Young, two scorers who went scoreless in the first half of the Los Angeles Lakers blowout loss to the Los Angeles Clippers, sat out of practice on Thursday. Young sat out with a sore right knee, which he said occurred when he slipped and fell in the second quarter Wednesday night.

Young said he expects he’ll be able to play in Friday’s game against the Orlando Magic. Ronnie Price, who sat out of Wednesday’s game with the combination of the flu and a broken nose, says he’ll be able to play Friday.

Lakers head coach Byron Scott calling his team “soft” five times to the media after their blowout loss to the Clippers, was the hot topic of conversation at Lakers practice, and Scott understood the magnitude of his words.

It’s almost like walking up to another man and slapping him. It really is,” Scott said after practice standing by his statement.

Young, who finished with 11 points, five rebounds and two turnovers in the Lakers loss, admitted embarrassment after last night’s blowout.

We looked like we didn’t have [any] fight, doing whatever they (Clippers) wanted to. They were dunking and joking around. It was embarrassing.”

There was no question that the Clippers controlled every aspect of Wednesday’s game. After the game, Bryant said the Clippers had the better, deeper team, with better players.

Scott said he hadn’t yet watched the footage from last night’s game, but said it will be interesting how the team responds after having the “brains beat out (of you).”

After you get your brains beat out physically where a team just dominates you, it’s always interesting to see how you react next game.”

Jeremy Lin said Thursday’s practice had a “training camp-ish” feel, describing Scott as setting the tone early, with nothing but running the first 20-30 minutes.

The Lakers take on the Orlando Magic at Staples Center on Friday evening.
