After working out for the Los Angeles Lakers on Monday, D’Angelo Russell is considered to be in the running for the team’s second overall pick in the 2015 NBA Draft along with Karl-Anthony Towns, Jahlil Okafor and Emmanuel Mudiay. While the latest report has the Lakers ‘locked’ on Okafor should the Minnesota Timberwolves select Towns, an interesting development has occurred this morning.

According to Keith Pompey of the Philly Inquirer, Russell has canceled his weekend visit and workout for the Philadelphia 76ers, who have the third pick:

In addition, Alec Nathan of Bleacher Report says Russell was already in Philadelphia, but has canceled the day before:

Although rescheduling is still in play, Russell canceling his workout for the team that he is projected to be selected by will naturally create speculation. While Towns and Okafor have been considered the top two picks in this year’s draft, there is a possibility he could be picked ahead of one of them by the Timberwolves or Lakers.

While the storied franchise has won championships with big men, general manager Mitch Kupchak stated that the team will not pick a big just because a big is available. With less than two weeks until the NBA Draft, it will be interesting to see who the Lakers ultimately select to add to the foundation of Julius Randle and Jordan Clarkson.
