Dwight Howard JPGThe plot continues to thicken in the Dwight Howard sweepstakes with another team being considered by Dwight Howard as free agency draws near.

Howard is already on the fence about returning to the Los Angeles Lakers and will seriously considering signing with the Houston Rockets, but now the Golden State Warriors have also emerged as a legitimate candidate according to Mark Medina of the LA Daily News:

Dwight Howard is considering signing with the Golden State Warriors as well as the previously reported Los Angeles Lakers, Houston Rockets, Dallas Mavericks and Atlanta Hawks, a source close to the player said Thursday.

According to the source, Howard’s main concern involves “what team he feels has the best chance to win championships, has the best team and system around him.”

The Warriors were considered an option for Howard via trade while still with the Orlando Magic. Golden State expressed interest in Howard, but were unable to provide the right pieces in return to land the superstar center.

With the Warriors having a breakout season with Stephen Curry, Klay Thompson and David Lee helping turn the struggling franchise around, it’s comes as no surprise that Howard would consider signing with a team ready to contend. Howard may very well be the missing piece to the puzzle for the Warriors and an intriguing option for the soon-to-be free agent.

Although the Lakers still appear to be the favorite to sign Howard, there’s no telling which direction this seemingly never ending saga will go from here on out. Golden State may very well go from a long shot to a strong contender for Howard’s services with a little more than a month left before free agency begins in July.
